Hi

We're looking at using Vimeo for our website. Only thing is our website uses https, does the Vimeo API support https calls?

Thanks

We're wanting to use Vimeo for a massive online video archive project we're doing, but currently can't because of the https issue.

+1 https api support.

it's my understanding that there is https support for direct embedding of iframe though, just not api calls? What about oEmbed calls to return json, will that be possible under https?

Another one here wishing HTTPS was supported. Just implemented the code for our product videos and they auto close perfectly when in http. If the user is in https then it ignores the status listener. Can't be that hard to fix. 3 years?

The lack of SSL support is becoming a larger customer support issue for us. We embed Vimeo in Facebook tab and canvas content, and Facebook forces SSL for all new users (unless they change settings otherwise). We're about to cross 1 TB of videos on our Vimeo Pro account. Can you advise on an ETA? Thank you.

Hi,

I may have a solution for you. If you use the old moogaloop.swf embed rather than the newer html5 universal player it should solve your facebook ssl issue. It does break ssl but only on play not on load like the iframe does. This is how facebook themselves have done vimeo embeds on their timeline.

but in any case here is a +1 for ssl vimeo reps ;)

Please support SSL - We use our pro account to serve confidential films to clients. We need SSL to work correctly. It seems that the insecure content is only an issue with insecure resources loaded into the iFrame? Why not simply serve the resources over a certified SSL connection? My guess is that this will fix it for us...

For anyone who didn't catch this at the top of the thread, as of this week HTTPS iframes and onsite clips will also server the video file over HTTPS, so there shouldn't be any other issues with getting security warnings in your browser. But of course, let us know if you run into any issues.

hngroup

hngroup PRO

That didn't really add support for the entirety of the API. I'm still struggling with streamed uploading. Our website is using HTTPS, and your API attempts to use HTTP, which causes the browser to block the content transfer.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I literally took this code from another site (non SSL) of ours, which works flawlessly. This seems like it's a specific issue with lack of HTTPS support.

Hi Vimeo,
I have created a test account for you to see the error that we have encountered.
You can login at compass-elearning.com, with
u/n: vimeoadmin
pass: vimeoadmin

After login, goto compass-elearning.com/min-side/modul_a/ and click on one of the images further down. In firefox they will open a popup, in chrome it wont. It worked without problems before we changed to https

It looks like the oembed request itself is made over HTTP. How are you making the oembed request? Manually from javascript, or through one of Vimeo's player libraries?

Nicolai Krüger

We dont use HTTP calls, ourself. The respond comes in HTTP.
We make the request manually, like Sew At Home have done it (see their reply below)

Hi Nicolai,

One of our guys found this. There is a 301 redirect to http when the 'www' subdomain exists. By ommiting the 'www', no redirect takes place therefore the content returned is under https and no longer blocked by browsers such as Chrome.

Nicolai Krüger

Nicolai Krüger

Hi Sew,

THANKS! It works like a charm now! It's great you guys can step in for the support team, when they go off the grid without a word ;)

Sew At Home

Sew At Home PRO

Hi Aaron,
I don't think is is making request over http. Here is my javascript:
function loadPlayer(videoId) {
var videoUrl = 'vimeo.com/'; + videoId;
var endpoint = 'vimeo.com/api/oembed.json';;
var callback = 'embedVideo';
var autoplay = 'true';
var url = endpoint + '?url=' + encodeURIComponent(videoUrl) + '&callback=' + callback + '&width=720' + '&autoplay=' + autoplay;

var js = document.createElement('script');
js.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript');
js.setAttribute('src', url);
document.getElementsByTagName('head').item(0).appendChild(js);
}

The response is always on http
