We know you've been waiting for the Android app for a long time and it's finally here! You can read more about it in our blog post vimeo.com/blog:470

Do you have any questions, comments or bug reports? Please post them here. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to make the next version even better!

IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM: 1) What device are you using? 2) What version of Android are you running? 3) If you received an error and you have the know how, please provide a log showing the exception stacktrace. If you don't know what this means, no worries, just skip it!

Hi guys,

We've pushed out an update (version 1.0.36) to the Android Marketplace that should fix the "Unparseable date" exception. Let us know if the fix works for you or not.

Thanks.

It really looks like you guys dropped the ball on this one. Sorry to say but it seems like most people here are running 2.3.4 or higher and it doesnt work or is running slow or it looks bad.

It seems like you guys should have held off a little longer and made sure it would work. Honeycomb and now with Ice Cream Sandwich this app should run smooth and look good.

Tommy Penner

I'm sorry you feel that way, David. We are working hard to ensure compatibility with as many devices as possible across the many different flavours of Android. With more combinations of devices and Android versions than we have employees, incompatibilities are inevitable. As always, we appreciate constructive criticism from the Vimeo and Android communities; thanks for your patience and support!

Downloaded the app, and SOME videos work fine. example, Martins Videos "Wishes HD" works fine, Martins "The Magic the Memoirs & You HD" I get "Video Error and Unknown playback error has occurred" Any ideas why? I'm running Android 4.0.2 on a Galaxy Nexus.

Thanks for your quick response.

No, it's not the only video. I found your site through Martin's Videos (Disney fan stuff which my kids like to see.) Some of the videos work, on my phone, others do not. Video 30885670 works, Videos 33902639, 31308935, 31247876, 26137184 and 25628733 do not. Others may or may not --- these are just examples.

And now I just got an "out of memory" message on my phone.

Any help would be appreciated -- sometimes I need these to keep little ones occupied. I am running Android 4.0.2 on a Galaxy Nexus.

Thanks again

Thanks for taking the time to make that video, Ken. Facebook doesn't use our embed code so we can't guarantee that it will play back on mobile devices there. Just thought I'd try to be specific about the way videos embedded on my website play back on my Samsung S2 - to see if it helps you in any way. They are sometimes hard to get playing (the video on bottom right of my homepage for example). When they do play the aspect ratio is a bit out and you normally can't rewind to the beginning again.

Sorry to ask you again, but it's important to me that it works, as I need to demonstrate this to potential clients. Do you think you'll have a solution soon? Thanks.

Customers will scan the specific barcode and be able to watch the video. I have enabled mobile versions of the video in the settings menu, but am unable to play them on my DROID 2 smartphone. Yes, I am using the official Vimeo App. It worked fine at first, but now it gives the error above consistently. I have gone through clearing all data, cache, even uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but nothing works. I have no problem logging in via the browser, even on the same Android device. I would just use the browser, but for some reason it says my videos won't play, even though I do have flash 11 installed and seems to play video on some other sites. The Vimeo App does play my videos if I search for them, but it won't let me log in.

Android 2.3.6 on a Motorola Atrix 3G via AT&T, kernel 2.6.32.9 build 4.5.141. I haven't changed anything from when it did work a couple of days ago. I created my Vimeo account from my desktop PC using Chrome or Firefox at various times, uploaded some videos from the desktop, then installed the Vimeo (official) app on my Android phone. It worked fine, other than the small point (now fixed, I think) regarding one video not showing in some views of my videos. Then, at some point a few hours later, I tried to log in, and it gave me the authorization errors posted above. I tried clearing all and un/re-installing again a couple of hours ago, but it still gives the same error. I have tried from both home wifi (going out via comcast) and AT&T cellular network and get the same error either way. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it may be that it started happening after someone got in touch from Vimeo saying they had addressed the issue that my email verification link gave a non-existent page error. Of course, that may just be a coincidence. I'm just trying to imagine what would cause a difference between authorization via the Vimeo app and authorization via browser (only for me?).

William Wraith IV

William Wraith IV Plus

I also tried changing my password from the browser and using the forgotten password link in the login page of the vimeo app. No luck.

William Wraith IV

William Wraith IV Plus

Just wondering if there's been any progress on this problem.

Some questions: 1) Is there anything else I can do to clear possible corruption of my app? I've cleared all data and cache, uninstalled, re-installed, and powered on and off my phone in various orders, none of which has helped so far. Is there any other place on the phone or in my settings at vimeo that could clear this up?
2) Is this happening just to me, or is it a general problem for all users?
3) If there is a problem at your end, would it be possible to force a reset of my authentication data everywhere in your system, i.e. if it is corrupt somewhere, such that only my Android App, not any browser access I make, is a problem, then can't this be fixed.
4) Is there some device or IP blockage on my phone that has occurred for some reason, (although I am coming from the same IP as this browser I'm on right now when I use wifi on my phone) that is causing this? If so, can't you undo the blockage?

I'm hoping this might not be a very difficult problem to solve, if someone could please look at it. I would be happy to get on the phone or go to an email dialog with someone to solve this. It's jsut a shame, because the app was working, and I could play videos with it on my phone. I can't play videos, except by downloading them, using the browser interface, although I do have flash installed on my Android device (Atrix)

Thanks, Bill Wraith

Hi Bill, I discussed this with our mobile devs a bit and we'd like to know if: 1) Are you able to log into Vimeo via the website, not the app? 2) In the app, do you actually see the login dialog? Do you type in your username/password and then does it deliver the server error message?

Hi Tommy, Yes, I can log in via the website on any device, including even the mobile device.
