Electroacoustic musician, videoartist and webdesigner, Giannico was graduated in “Musicology and Musical Heritage” at the University of Lecce (Italy) with a thesis on “History of film music” and then specialized in Design and New Media.
In 2010, he founded AIPS – Archivio Italiano Paesaggi Sonori together with Alessio Ballerini. In 2013, always with Ballerini he founded Oak, an art music label.
His musical approach is better described as a cinematic journey which pushes the boundaries of digital media even further by incorporating smooth melodies and gentle textures. More canonical instruments such as guitar and piano are constantly present into Francesco Giannico’s music, within interrupted structures or long and dreaming sonorous carpets.
About him Thurston Moore wrote (from Sonic Youth): “…Even less jazzic is Folkanization by Francesco Giannico. This young Italian electro-acoustic composer in whose work we can hear tendrils of everything from Luigi Nono to Toru Takemitsu. Filled with odd details, the music is fascinating.”
He published his works for many labels and he collaborated with many artists like: Matteo Uggeri, Luca Mauri, Bruno Dorella, Amy Denio, Kim Cascone, Thollem McDonas, Zac Nelson, Stefan Bonitatibus , Ben Chatwin, Mary Levykina, Anna Aleksandra Waliszewska. Fabio Orsi , Alessio Ballerini, Nicola Di Croce, Giulio Aldinucci.
