This Opera North commission combines film by Mariele Neudecker edited by Lumen’s Phil Slocombe with ice music by Terje Isungset. The Assembly Rooms hosted this spectacular tryptic installation film and sound piece. Lumen’s imagery takes us deep into the real North and the North of our collective imaginations.
Insungset is considered the pioneer of ice-instruments, at once avant-garde and deeply rooted in the traditions of Scandinavian music. Audiences were immersed in an unforgettable experience of falling snow, cracking ice and the real people for whom this is home. Our thanks to Opera North for commissioning the project. October 2009
