Reuben Bullock unassumingly holds huge influence in Calgary’s burgeoning new art and folk movement. Whether it’s directing the on going roster of Market Collective musicians, producing Shot at the Dark music videos or playing for hours in full cafes, empty tunnels, or old city buses, Bullock is a fresh breath for traditionalism. He owns some wicked shirts, can ollie super high and your kids will look up to him one day.
We didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into when we set up shop at Market Collective, in Calgary. A handful of instruments, a couple of bar stools, one half of a Norman Rockwell painting collection, borrowed wallpaper, or lamp and the camera were supposed to sum up the bi-monthly art fantasy that has swept Calgary for awhile now. Not a bad collection for a pack of rag-tags, but hardly a sure bet if no one wanted to play. But they did play, smiled, ate snacks, and for an entire weekend, the city made a whole lot of new sounds.
