Carlos Santana, a Mexican/American musician began to gain recognition in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His music quickly gained popularity as he single-handedly pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American music.
Santana's version (cover) of the great Tito Puente's composition "Oye como va" is the ultimate in what cover songs should be. The removal of Puente's horn section and the addition of Santana's revved up guitars served notice that this was not The addition of the Hammond B3 Organ was a stroke of genius.
