Talk presented by Andy Blunden at the annual conference of the Australasian Society for Continental Philosophy, in Hobart in December 2007.
Andy criticises those such as Axel Honneth or Robert R Williams who make a pragmatic interpretation of Hegel's spirit which omits the moment of mediation, thus reducing cultural life to intersubjectivity, immediate interactions between persons. Cultural Psychology in the Vygotsky tradition on the other hand, includes the mediation of interactions by culture.
