I don't think anyone has ever taken a really interesting picture of their own backyard. And in the same way, getting out of DC every once and a while is a healthy thing for our filmmaking.
We made the small hike down to Charlottesville a day before Rachel and Brian got married. I think the sooner you can start your coverage, the better, it gives you a chance to build a context and depth for the narrative. There were the necessary shots of the landscape, but it gave us an entire day with the couple, and their surrounding cast of family and friends.
We tried to create a piece that was both expansive and intimate, and I think the new location and extra time helped in that. Beautiful people who are hopelessly in love don't hurt either.
