At 1:30 am on Valentine’s Day in 2011 in San Diego, a taxi cab lost control and ran into a crowd of people waiting outside the Stingaree nightclub. Dozens of people were injured. The driver was pulled out of the cab and assaulted by an angry mob. The driver was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing in the accident by the police. He had fallen asleep at the wheel due to exhaustion.
Meter Running is a short documentary that recreates the Stingaree accident and looks at the underlying causes of the disaster. The film includes interviews with local drivers and reviews the recommendations of local experts to improve environment for drivers and the public in San Diego.
