Steely Dan's classic "Do It Again" is a signature and highly descriptive brand for the music they would create throughout their long and historic career. Mixing jazzier harmonies, echoes of hard rock, clear and clean production, and a sophisticated lyrical approach,he band was in top form during this period and was putting out classic after classic.
Guitarist Denny Dias played the solo guitar parts on "Do It Again" using a three-quarter overdriven guitar and an acute attention to modal phrases. His solos fit the song's chordal structure and overall vibe well. Dias played a very descriptive and highly melodic solo full of rhythmic twists and enough chromaticism to give it the "Jazz Lift" so typical of the bands overall approach to writing and expression.
