The hybrid film “ARVIND” will document the life of Arvind Hathaway, a local teenager on the cusp of adulthood. Arvind is also writing a short film inspired by his life- he has decided to write a story from the POV of his mother. Arvind will help cast actors, direct actors and portray himself in the narrative film. The final piece will combine the documentary and Arvind’s film.
Arvind is fifteen and lives with his father and older brother in Austin. His mother has Borderline Personality Disorder. Shortly after his parents divorce when Arvind was two, his mother attempted to kill herself as well as Arvind and his older brother with mosquito poison. She went to prison, served half her fifteen year sentence and now lives back in Austin. This past summer, Arvind’s mother tried to friend him and his brother on Skype. The family responded with a court case to cement a lifelong restraining order. They received the order. The first hearing on October 26, 2012, was the first time Arvind has seen his mother in twelve years.
