Louis St. Lewis is an artist residing in Chapel Hill, N.C. Described as "One of the state's true geniuses" by the former director of the NC Museum of Art, Louis does not easily fit descriptive molds or phrases. When I began constructing sound and still image pieces on local artisans I asked Raleigh glass and metal sculptor Nate Sheaffer who he would suggest I interview next. He didn't hesitate and suggested his friend and collaborative artist, Louis St. Lewis. Louis is a painter and collage artist, using many mediums and materials to construct his work. This short piece introduces Louis in his own way, I chose the images and the sounds that immediately jumped out at me from the 40 minutes of audio I have. Other short pieces will follow.
Louis' can be seen at the following museums:
The Ogden Museum, New Orleans, LA
The New Orleans Museum of Art
The Morris Museum, Augusta, GA
The Masur Museum, Monroe, LA
UNC's Ackland Art Museum
East Carolina University's Wellington B. Gray Gallery
