AC/DC Lane, Melbourne

With a career that has spanned four decades, the Meat Puppets have witnessed countless musical movements and fads come and go, but despite it all, have stuck to their guns and retained a dedicated fan base. Along the way, the Puppets have made admirers out of some of rock’s most renowned names – most obviously Kurt Cobain, who personally invited the Puppets to appear on Nirvana’s classic performance, MTV Unplugged in New York – and have amassed a canon of timeless songs (“Plateau“, “Lake of Fire“, “Up on the Sun“, “Backwater” etc.).

Since 1981, the Meat Puppets have been crafting their sun-drenched, cosmic country and punk rock. With classic albums like Meat Puppets II, Up on the Sun, and Too High to Die, the band has acquired a diehard group of admirers including some of rock’s most renowned artists (Nirvana, Pavement, Soundgarden). Following the reunion of Curt and Cris Kirkwood, and the 2012 release of the band’s biography Too High to Die: Meet the Meat Puppets, the b!and’s iconic status seems assured. !

Meat Puppets are Curt Kirkwood and bassist Cris Kirkwood with drummer Shandon Sahm (son of Doug Sahm) and new addition on second guitar, Curt’s son, Elmo Kirkwood.

Brant Bjork rises from the Californian Desert to co-headline CherryRock014, beside the legendary Meat Puppets. Also added to the final line-up are High Tension and Powerline Sneakers.

And because of the 108 Flinders Street residential development and new Peruvian restaurant at the base of ACD/DC Lane, this must be the final CherryRock Festival as we know it!

Brant Bjork is revered for his impeccable stoner rock pedigree in KYUSS and Fu Manchu on drums. Brant Bjork has taken lead vocals and guitar via the Californian Desert to a new transcendental high on his seminal stoner albums ‘Somera Sol’, ‘Punk Rock Guilt’ and ‘Gods & Goddesses’. The man is an icon and is as cool as a cactus in the midnight desert.
