The Botanical Gardens in the Golden Gate Park of San Francisco.

This is dedicated to Nancy Baron. I did not know her. However, I sit across from her bench many times when I visit the Botanical Gardens in the Golden Gate Park.

Come to find out, she was born and raised in the East Bay. She graduated with honors from Cali, receiving her MFA from Mills College. And later, she got her teaching credentials from SFSU. In 1950, she married Fran Baron, and moved to San Francisco where she lived for the next 62 years. She left behind 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson at the time of her passing. "Nancy was first, last, and always an artist.", according to her obituary. She loved to creat art and share her observations of the natural world with all. She was an advocate of education, and taught nersery school for many years. As a docent and docent trainer for over 25 years, her love of nature brought her to the SF Botanical gardens (then, called the Strybing Arboretum). She was a docent at the Academy of Sciences, too. If you come accross the journal of the California Native Plant Society, or the book Trees of San Francisco, or the maps and guides for the Arboretum, you will find many of her ilustrations and drawingings in them.

What an acomplished lady. I would have liked to have known her.
