The film will compare the four hundred years of American slavery that ended in 1865 to the one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States in the 21st century: The Prison Industry Complex. At least 37 states have legalized the contracting of prison labor to private corporations. Between 1980 and 1994, due to the labor provided by inmates, who earn pennies per hour, profits for these top U.S. corporations went up from $392 million to $1.31 billion and continue to grow.
