Documentaries

It's silly, it's raunchy, and it's the first of four videos documenting the 2013 Doo Dah Queen Tryouts. The Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena is a long standing tradition -- not as long as its more traditional and conservative counterpart, but it does have a place in Pasadena's local history (the parade was the hit of an exhibit at the Pasadena Historical Museum last year). I went with a friend, who has been working on his own documentary about the Doo Dah Parade for many years now, and I decided to do some filming for myself. This was shot at the American Legion Hall in Pasadena. I wanted to see if I could maintain the silly, wacky atmosphere one experiences while actually attending these events, both in the shooting and the editing. It isn't just about pointing a camera, shooting and then tossing it up on line unedited, as some people have done on that other popular video channel. This is how I saw the event; the way it is put together is how I interpreted it. I don't own the rights to any of the music, but I am also not trying to exhibit this (or the other segments to follow) for commercial purposes. I am just sharing the experience and showing what one can do with material that they capture on video but have no control over, but then taking that material and editing it into something that one can call their own. Enjoy.
