I realized that in society today, slavery still exist. However, there are different forms of slavery, in which are inconspicuous and continue to oppress the black community without their knowledge. For example , the media and the image of black that circulates throughout the web has become normalized. The negativity that the media creates, has also become normalized. Most of this negativity circulates without anyone being accountable. It is important to me that viewing this film, one would start to realize and also expose the subliminal messages that we view everyday as entertainment. It's not entertainment. It’s hidden racism, sexism etc. In our world today, we are almost blind to everything going on. They don't want us to gain knowledge of anything. I want this film to change that. I wanted to focus on the way the world works. There are systematic structures put in place to make sure the minority don't succeed. “How Slavery Built The Modern World”, is an article written by Greg Grandin. This article talks about how slaves built the modern world we live in today but never received credit for it. This article is responsible for the spark of inspiration I had to create this film. From Lynching Photos To Michael Brown’s Body: Commodifying Black Death, written by William Anderson, was also an inspirational article for me. With this film I'm challenging the inconspicuous messages in media, patriarchal societies and unjust systems.
