Hinatayama Fukkoji Temple, located in Miyawaka, Fukuoka Prefecture. This mountain temple sits in natural quietude and is built in worship of a Bishamonten statue from the Heian period. Because of a fire, the Bishamonten idol is missing its left arm and is marred with burns. Since the renovation of the main hall, a new tradition began where every twelve years (the year of the tiger), the Bishamonten image is brought out for public viewing. The Tanabata Festival on July 7th is generally known as an occasion where prayers are fulfilled, but Fukkoji is known for its concerts, where the chief priestess of the temple performs on the biwa, a Japanese lute.
