A preview of a documentary made by students of the Utrecht School of the Arts as a part of the KFI project in Tanzania.
The Kilimanjaro Film Institute (KFI) in Arusha, Tanzania provides professional training in media skills to underprivileged youth. Through a combination of formal education and practical training the KFI students will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to start a professional career in the media production industry in East Africa. The overall goal of the Kilimanjaro Film Institute is to train the youth as professional media producers and to give a voice to the voiceless. KFI promotes the production of innovative filmed media that stimulate debate on social issues and enhance the cultural identity of (young) people in East Africa.
The KFI project focuses on the transition of KFI towards becoming a self-sustaining training institute: an institute that is able to train students in it’s educational programme, without dependency of the expertise from foreign partners. Therefore the main objective of the project focuses on capacity building of local staff.
