"A prophet's task is to reveal the fault lines hidden beneath the comfortable surface of the worlds we invent for ourselves, the national myths as well as the little lies and delusions of control and security that get us through the day.” -Kathleen Norris
"Better than anyone else, Jeremiah reveals the spiritual fractures beneath the comfortable surface of daily life. This was true in the prophet’s own time, as he watched his society suffer the devastating consequences of life without God.... It is still true today as western civilization accelerates towards the godless abyss.” - Phillip G. Ryken
The video and imagery of this series takes the approach of imagining a modern-day Jeremiah. A man who has seen a vision of destruction, but it hasn’t happened yet. And so now he is faced with making it known to people who cannot see it.
How do you go about telling people the things they have built their world upon and around… the comforts, lies, myths and delusions they have set up for themselves… will fail?
We live in that world. We are much like that man. Just as Jeremiah brought a message to shake up those who thought they had God in their back-pocket and yet did whatever they wanted; we must bring a message to shake up those today who have taken the name of “Christian” by culture, heritage, association or action, but have never truly surrendered their allegiance to Jesus.
We too can point to the impending destruction, whether it be their own mortality or the return of Jesus and the final judgment, and say, “When it all fails, even when gravity fails, what will you have that remains?”
May our answer be: “You can have all this world. Just give me Jesus.”
