Hi! This is my first HD video / music video / drum demo. I hope you enjoy.
In this video I tried to make a drum demo while also learning HD video editing. I always thought it would be fun to see all parts of the band playing at the same time and this wasn't really possible before HD (and sites like Vimeo).
Anyway, making this was like playing the same song in the video game Rockband for several days but with hopefully some more socially redeemable value. This took about a week to write, practice, perform, record, and composite.
My chops are a bit rusty, which you can easily hear if you listen carefully. I only had a couple of weeks to practice but hope to have more time to improve.
Here is some info on how I made this:
- Drum sticking was based on stuff I learned from Gary Chaffee over the 6 months of lessons I had the good fortune to take with him (the crazy ride-snare pattern is a 7a-7a-1-1 sticking).
- The drum kit is a Yamaha Manu Katche Hip Gig (tiny 16" bass) with Tama hardware and Zildjian cymbols (including a ride cymbol that is just horrible).
- Keyboard is a Clavia Nord Lead 2.
- Mixer is a Mackie 1202-VLZ with Shure SM57 microphones.
- Camcorder is a Canon HG10 using AVCHD format to transfer the files to my computer.
- Video was processed with an Intel QX9650 running Ubuntu 7.10 (Linux) and the Cinelerra video editor for compositing the video and audio together.
