Erfurt is a German city, home to about 200,000 people. It is the capital of the state of Thuringia. Unlike most other German cities during World War II, Erfurt sustained relatively little damage. It is an architectural jewel, with buildings from the middle ages (including a 14th century synagogue), the Renaissance, and subsequent centuries, including the famous Plattenbauten from the Communist period.
