British Columbia is known for big mountains and deep snow. These two elements, when properly combined, have also been known to give birth to some of the best big mountain skiers in the world.

James Heim cut his teeth in the Kootenay Region of Southeast British Columbia before heading for the relatively quiet hamlet of Pemberton, just 25 minutes from one of the best ski resorts in North America, Whistler Blackcomb. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably heard about their epic opening month. “It just kept on snowing and snowing everyday,” says Heim. “It has been one of the best opening months to a season that I can remember.”
