Black soybeans were once a popular Palawija, but were almost forgotten during the modernization of agriculture in Java. Unilever Indonesia renewed the tradition of Palawija planting within a poverty alleviation program that also reinstlalled the proud farmer identity of people in Central Java for the black soybeans. It provided the seeds, capital and technological development assistance, as well as a ready market for the black soybeans.
