Our motion design assignment this term was to create a title sequence for a film or television series that is in pre-production. I chose a television series called "When I'm Sixty Four", a comedy set in a nursing home.
My interpretation of the title sequence focuses on the themes of nostalgia, youth and idealized childhood. I used (public domain) stock footage of children playing to represent themes of nostalgia and youth. I experimented with a new technique, printing out the video and coloring it in frame by frame.
There were 780 frames in total, each one colored in by hand. I decided not to color in the children, but rather color in their clothes and the things that they interact with in the environment.
Special thanks to Sean Nicholas Savage for his song "More than to talk to you" and thanks to Kara Hornland, Emilia Pelech, Nigel Dembicki and Sarah Rush for helping me color in some frames!
