When going down the sea surface, away from your natural habitat, into the coldness, under the physical preasure of the water surrounding your lungs, unable to breath, unable to shout: the feeling of loneliness is as intense as the feeling of someone or something invisible being there with you.
The fear blends with the desire of going even deeper towards the unknown and leave behind everything above the surface.
This video ilustrates the sensations I get when I go the deepest I can reach below the surface relying only on the air in my lungs. Diving under the tones of iron of the sunken merchant ship Melchuca gives me the mixed feelings of amazement and irrational fear of something alive inhabiting it that will sudenly make appearance. At its lowest point at 12 meters under the surface, the cocktail of atraction to the deep and fear of what remains hidden behind the invisible deep blue background of the sea is amplified by a deep sense of vulnerability.
