Fly fishing for Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Silver Salmon and just maybe some early steelhead on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska.
When I arrived in Alaska on September 11th, my primary target, the Kenai River, was just starting to recede from Flood Stage. Luckily, the smaller waters were in good shape and in many ways it was a blast to reconnect with the some of the other great streams.
The egg bite was on and if you could find spawning salmon and match the "egg hatch" with elaborately nail- polished beads, you would do well. Also, the silver salmon runs were late creating some fantastic opportunities for streamer smacking goodness.
As great as the fishing is, it is the scenery, the wildlife and the people of Alaska that make each trip a special experience, although there were no confirmed Palin sightings on this trip.
