TOP PICKS AT THE BIENNALE
We pick out our 15 must-see works at the Singapore Biennale 2011 by Mayo Martin
"Mysterious and haunting, this Singaporean artist will make sure you never look at longkangs the same way again. Your eyes are immediately drawn to two huge nets filled with leaves and other detritus. And then there's the video, which literally gave us goosebumps as we watched a sci-fi-ish journey across Singapore's drains slowly unfold (over 20 minutes), with strange men appearing and disappearing before you literally drown in the wash of water. That we watched it just as the tsunami tragedy occurred in Japan added a new, tragic meaning to the work. And the image of a man standing in the middle of the longkang "bleeding" a white substance is one that will stick with us for quite some time."
