Had a couple hours to test out the new Panasonic GH4 at Point Lobos State Park. Wanted to see how 4k would grade and how much noise I would get in the footage. Noise was more apparent in 4K, and also noticed a slight crop when shooting in 4k that I am not too crazy about. Maybe I didn't set something up right in the camera, not sure, it was my first time using it. Turned Master Pedestal all the way to the right, and forgot to set it back to the middle after a few shots. Not sure if this caused more noise in the image. Used a KDX Lut in FCP X, and added some slight color adjustments but didn't push the grade too much, I just wanted to do a quick test. I used a Lightcraft Fader ND, which I don't particularly like (makes the image look soft), but it's all I had in my bag. Overall, I was impressed with the GH4. Love the controls, image is sharp, focus peaking was extremely helpful and EVF is very much improved compared to the GH3. The only picture style I have tried so far is Cine-D but didn't change anything on the Cine-D settings to customize it.
