I discovered Quest, a hip-hop artist from Florida, through Twitter about three months ago and asked him if he'd be interested in working on a project together. Funnily enough, he was coming to New York to perform at a show anyway, so we figured we'd make the best of it. Quest had received an eviction notice just prior to his flight to NY, and much of our conversation during the shoot was about maintaining a positive mentality and creating success in the worst of times.
We had about a days worth of time total to shoot the performances, so everything was pretty much improv. What's interesting is that Quest's performances were so consistent between takes and locations that certain cuts appear to be shot with two cameras, instead of one. This is of course just an illusion, and I tip my hat to him for his spontaneous, solid choreography.
Speaking of illusions, I wanted to add a symbol to my logo that represents what I do. The Penrose triangle is an impossible object, a type of optical illusion that appears three-dimensional but isn't geometrically possible. It's simple, powerful and visually intriguing - traits that I try to embody into my own works, so the symbol fits right in.
Enough rambling, back to work I go on my next project!
