Improvised Music

(In)visible Sound is an experimental audio-visual performance work devised by Ewan Stefani and realised in collaboration with the saxophonist Christophe de Bezenac. The project investigates the use of projected video within a partially acousmatic live performance, where electroacoustic and instrumental musicians are hidden from view. Live video is used to selectively reveal details of the improvised performances of the two musicians to the audience that are otherwise hidden from view. The visual interface between audience and performers sometimes becomes ambiguous as the video is delayed or replaced by pre-recorded footage, so that the audience are encouraged to question the validity of the visual information about the performance.

This is a full, unedited live performance of (in)visible sound, featuring Christophe de Bezenac (on saxophone and laptop), and Ewan Stefani (live video sampling and live audio processing / sampling).

Venue: The Wardrobe, Leeds, as part of the International Forum for Innovation, Production and Composition organised by Leeds College of Music and directed by Dale Perkins.

Date: 13th December, 2012.
