This film was created in 3 days, the shooting took 3 consecutive days as we were shooting at sun set, got dark on us 3 times, the first cut was made in the 3rd day, and it took me 3 editing sessions to finish it.
It was produced on a no budget, we went out in the streets to buy ropes, it was 12 am, and nothing was opened. We stopped to get us some "koshary" and then my magic man "Mahmoud Lotfy" asked me to stop the car and ran out…
I found him with 3 Cartoon Cases, Man where'd u bring'em? he told me, i found them infront of this store while it was closing down and asked the guy to give them to me and he said Okay.
Great..next day (1st day of the shoot) we went looking for ropes, we found this 100 years old man, having exactly the type of ropes we want, he gave us so many, it looked like it's been there for a century and we're the only ones who asked for 'em..
Again things are easily found when my magic man is around, Mahmoud lotfy usually attracts unusual incidents. He has lots of stories to tell, and you never really know if they're true, but after some time of knowing him, I think they are…
The location where i shot...i had the idea inspired from a location i saw, lots of Junk cars, old big vans arranged in a random manner in some kind of garage, it turned out to be military area, hell forget it, there's no way i could convince them.
i slept on it, and i woke up knowing exactly where to go, the place where we meet, edit, brain storm, our den.. is a place surrounded by beautiful old architecture, so many old buildings and people "El Daher" also surrounded by lots of workshops and Ceramic sellers, warehouses, it's so humane and so not humane at the same time. around our place "Jesuite" are buildings falling apart, and spaces with lots of rubbish or old junk, or wood...or ceramic.
I walked out of my car, and i knew exactly where i was going, and i had never been to this place before and it was perfect! especially with the bulldozer it was incredibly fun to climb on it. now it's not there anymore. It was quite a discovery for me and my crew to find a place so close to where we spend most of our day, "jesuite" it was just a separating wall. and so matching to what we want. and so rich at the same time.
The down side is there was a warehouse in this alley, and its only day off was sunday, and we started sunday but the rest of the days, were were faced by lots of noise, workers making fun of us and out of no where you find water spilled on your head, and also passersby, stoping and staring, and all the time we don't want it to get dark, we were racing time, with a messed up tripod and not even a single piece of ground that was one level, there were notches on the ground, we couldn't even make the tripod stand.
The hardest thing was keeping the faith, especially with your crew...
Tell me if you could find any 3's in the concept of this film..
