This is the third episode of the new season of DCTV's traditional Irish music series "Coppers and Brass". Presented and researched by Tommy Fegan - a trad scholar and musician himself - the series showcases the music, the players and the issues that often don't get discussed in the world of Irish traditional music. Featuring interviews in studio, as well as from the Willie Clancy week in Clare and other key gettogethers on the trad calendar, each episode is wonderfully rounded off with a performance from the legendary Cobblestone pub in Dublin 7.
The third episode in season 2 explores the effects that both emigration and immigration have had on Irish traditional music. Tommy's special guest, published writer on the subject & seasoned radio producer Peter Woods, helps delve in to what happened to the music as it traveled abroad, and returned. The episode also includes a performance by Daithi Kearney joined by some students of trad performance in Dundalk's IT, playing The Yew Tree and The Gates of Mullagh.
Season 1 of Coppers and Brass aired weekly on DCTV last September & Season 2 kicks off at 8pm on Tuesday, July 1st.
Episodes will be available here & on DCTV's vimeo channel, running weekly until August 12th. Enjoy!
