The concept of the multiverse was introduced for the first time in so-called "many-worlds interpretation" of quantum mechanics proposed by Hugh Everett III in His doctoral thesis: The Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics.
The MWI provides that any quantum measurement (carried out at the Planck scale, atomic sizes) leads to the division of the observed universe in many parallel universes as the number of possible outcomes of this measure.
In its different formulations, all the universes, which are precisely the multiverse, are structurally identical and can exist in different states even if they share the same physical laws and fundamental constants.
Keep in mind that these universes are not communicating, an exchange of information between them won’t be going to happen.
In an episode of the popular British television series Doctor Who (The episode in question is ‘Doomsday’, written by Russell T. Davies), the "Doctor" is making a difficult and dramatic choice: to dismiss the person who perhaps loved him most ever, "exiling" in a parallel universe to ensure her safety and survival.
During the same episode, there is a poignant moment in which the two protagonists, The Doctor and Rose, after being separated in two distinct universes, are facing each other separated only by a simple white wall.
This imaginary and symbolic boundary line, not separating two different places in the same space-time, but two entire universes, suggested us to repeat that experience in the form of installation and be able to hear what was in the "other side", over that wall.
Mirror_Mirror is organized within a space.
What does this mean?
The space itself, if not "populated" by matter (empty), is in fact permeated by low energy levels fluctuating all the time.
It was our interest to work by analogy in the domain of sound: as a result we have created an application that can "sonify" theoretical energy fluctuations (generating pressure waves, structures and emergent behaviors) starting from the state of lowest energy available, namely: the background noise.
Due to the software implementation and use of microphones we were able to "measure" the background noise and ensure that the instrument could make "something" using all the information available in our space/universe creating temporary energy fluctuations.
Putting down a medical stethoscope on the wooden surface in the room - that recalls in a symbolic way the white wall (previously encountered in Doctor Who), a place of division between our universe and another - the visitor can discover and "measure", with varying levels of definition, the sound coming from a different universe likely not in phase with ours.
And with a little care, you will hear again the voice of Rose and the Doctor, as if suspended in a time loop, to remind us that perhaps the current laws of physics, may not be the same in every place and at every time.
