M4 COMPETITION SUBMISSION DATE EXTENDED TO APRIL 7!

M4 aims to explore the creative and expressive potential of today's most widely owned film medium—the mobile phone. In partnership with a/perture Cinema, Piedmont Film Commission and Wake Forest University’s Film Studies program, SECCA is proud to present the M4 (Mobile Media Mini Movies) Competition. From playful to bold to insightful, the M4 Competition invites our community to embark on a video journey—share a story, make a statement, try an experiment. With a mobile phone, anyone can be a movie maker! Thanks to our sponsor the Snob Consignment Shop.

The M4 Competition is FREE to enter. Filming must be done with a mobile device such as a cell phone, mp3 player, or tablet. Participants must be residents or students in North Carolina to enter. Participants can only submit one entry (this means a total of one film not one per category). Films can be no longer than 120 seconds in length.
Each film submission must finish with a screen shot listing the name of the entrant, a contact phone number and e-mail address. Films that do not contain this information will not be judged in the competition. (The contact information slide will not be included in the running time of the video.)

SECCA links one special-theme category to exhibitions in the SECCA galleries. For this competition, the special- theme category is Texture and Tactility inspired by artist Jennifer West. Other categories are narrative, documentary and experimental.

Submissions will be accepted from January 17 - March 31, 2013. Submissions must be received no later than midnight on March 31st. To assist contestants, The Snob Consignment Shop, located at 465 West End Blvd., is offering to provide props free of charge. Interested contestants should call the Snob Consignment Shop at 336-724-2547 to make arrangements to come by the shop to pick props to use for a 24-hour period.

Finalists will be selected in early April and notified via their Vimeo account. All finalist entries will be screened at SECCA during the M4 reception on April 11, 2013. Winners will receive a one-on-one lunch meeting with a film maker.
