Frank Atkinson is a champion show shearer who has been selected to represent Australia in the world shearing championships, held in New Zealand, this coming February. We heard about his Crazy Passion for show shearing in a local newspaper and decided to go out, in 44 degree heat, to film him in action at a sheep station, just north of the Victorian border.
Even though he spends long days working in the shearing shed, Frank then dedicates his weekends and holidays to the hobby of competitive shearing. His daughter even has a collection of more than 40 singlets that he has collected for her from each of his shearing competitions.
I met Frank during a week spent interning at the ABC Goulburn Valley. During my time at the ABC, I had the opportunity to become a contributor with ABC Open as a part of their on-going "My Crazy Passion" project.
