New Concert Music

I developed An Investigation of the Space with Ten Intervals after rehearsing in the World Music Hall for the first time. With its high ceiling and slab-like walls, the World Music Hall is an ideal space for a rich tuba sound. I wanted to create a work that demonstrates the different reverberant characteristics that the sound of the tuba has in the World Music Hall. I experimented with various methods to play the same interval. For example, I compared the singing of a note while playing another to approaching a note with a slow glissando. In doing so, two very different relationships emerged between notes. To realize the piece, I layer these techniques on top of one another in order to create an intricate sonic event.
