Fourth piece of work produced for Race For the Prize group show, part of the British Art Show Fringe. Higgs Bridge started life as a sketch of a mysterious looking shed that I encountered near Camber Sands. I started working along the lines that something fantastical or esoteric may be taking place inside. After some time adding and subtracting elements to the animation I read an article about the search for the Higgs Boson particle at Cern. The original animation then morphed into an imagined machine or mechanism, used for entering into, or bridging the gap between observed and unobserved space. The idea of the machine stemmed directly from 'Multiples', which appeared to me like a celestial mechanism and seems to be a recurring theme in my work.
