This video welcomes the impending arrival of the Union Pacific 150th Anniversary train and celebration to Portland, Oregon on Friday, July 13, 2012 and wishes Union Pacific a glorious Sesquicentennial! President Lincoln's signing of the Transcontinental Railroad bill led to the creation of Union Pacific on July 1, 1862 and this is celebrated by the Oregon Civil War 150th Commission, along with the people of Oregon.
July 2012 marks the 150th Anniversary of this historic event, which took place during the American Civil War, and helped to develop the new state of Oregon (1859). Currently, Oregon has been preparing for this event for over four years. First, with special programs produced from 2008-2011 by by the Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial and the Friends of History at Portland State University. Second, with the April 12, 2012 program on "Civil War Trains and the 150th Anniversary taking of 'The General' by ndrew's Raiders," which pointed out the use of trains during the Civil War and prepared the audience for the 150th Anniversary of Union Pacific.
