The U.W.C 04 Conference gathered two utopian world champions, one runner-up and three guests in a debate about utopian ideas, democracy and politics which was held on April 3, 2005, the day after the U.W.C. Gala at which that year's winner received his prize, 1000 Euro in front of an cheering audience in the main exhibition hall at the art venue Färgfabriken in Stockholm.
The participants were, in order of appearance: Jon Brunberg (UWC project manager and moderator), Cyril Belshaw (Utopian World Champion 2004), Per Norbäck (second prize winner 2004), T.R.O.Y., (the first Utopian World Champion 2001 and particpant of the jury 2004), Oliver Kalleinen (Artist), Tellervo Kalleinen (Artist) Annika Drougge (UWC project manager and camera-woman) and Tuomas Finne (producer).
This is part 1 of the recorded debate where Cyril Belshaw elaborates on the possibilities of the development of Utopia and the role of the people, where Per Norbäck talks about Demoex, the political direct democratic party that he founded, where T.R.O.Y. talks about existing forms of direct democracy and Oliver and Tellervo Kalleinen points to the concept of micro-nations.
The video is 15 minutes long. Unfortuneately the sound is quite bad. A transcript of the talk is available at soc.nu/utopian/conference05/part1.asp where you can also read the winning essays.
