Simon Faithfull's work veers between the mundane and the extreme. A recent example of this split would be the work presented in the 2007 Venice Biennale. In this exhibition Faithfull exhibited three films - 44, a film documenting a two-month journey to Antarctica aboard an ice-breaking ship, 30Km, a film transmitted back from a weather balloon as it made a journey from the earth to the edge of space and Orbital no.1, a film which combined three complete journeys around London's circular commuter routes. Using a variety of means including video, digital drawing and writing, Faithfull's interventions and explorations examine the normality and the oddness of the world around him. Other recent projects include the bookwork LOST which tells the stories of all objects lost in the artist's life. Five hundred of these books were then deliberately lost and are now making their way around the world in a series of random findings and losings.
