"BLUE HONDA", a RORO (Roll On Roll Off) cargo ship departs Richmond, California in mid winter just after sunset. This vessel, Celestial Wing, a PCTC (Pure Car/Truck Carrier), can transport more than 6000 cars and trucks from Honda in Japan to their global markets. Assisting tugs furnished by Foss Maritime: Lynn Marie of San Francisco and Marshall Foss of Long Beach, California.
This was shot from Ford Point, about a half mile from my home, one of my favorite fishing holes for nautical traffic. These ROROs come and go quickly, they may only be in port for one or two days so catching one during the golden hour is very special to me. In the foreground of the last two shots is the stern of the WWII era victory ship "Red Oak" now a museum and maintained by local volunteer veterans.
