*** 2012 1st Place Winner at the 1st Annual Underwater Video Contest by Anchor Ocean Rover's Dive Club!!*** The Goliath grouper has been a "Critically Endangered" species for about 20 years. In the last 5 years there has been consideration to lift the ban on hunting the species due to an increase in their numbers. However, the population has not recovered to what they classify as "no longer threatened." I intended this video to shed light on how fragile the marine ecosystem is and how quickly a species can be wiped out. We may never see in our lifetime their populations recover to what they were in the 1800s. We can protect them for our future generations through continued conservation efforts and public awareness. Filmed off of Key West, FL using the Sony Nex 5n with the Nikonos 15mm wide angle lens and Sola 1200 lights. Enjoy!
