These salmon are migrating up a small creek that runs through the center of town. The stream runs without hesitation, as there is no room for meandering turns or small rapids. People live along this creek, cars drive by, kids swim in the summer. People appreciate the sights and sounds of running water, but under the surface a drama unfolds. This is the final act for these Coho Salmon. Their battle for a mate never ends. The fish are busy fighting, digging and dying, ignoring my presence amongst the boulders and blackberries, until a large coho gave me the thrill of a lifetime.
