It all started when graphic designers Clémentine Poupineau and Pauline Mallemanche made small grains dance to the music of SOA by putting them onto speakers, taking them on photo and creating SOA's first EP artwork this way.
A couple of month later I was exciting to translate this organic approach into a music video, without any fancy equipment or special effects. The goal was to create an organic world that fits the band's musical approach of reduced, original jazz music with three roots instruments: piano, percussion and voice.
The song "A new life" is about dreams, journeys into new beginnings and escaping self-made prisons. The short film tries to captures the songs emotion by having the three characters emerge into a miniature world of basic elements.
Everything was filmed on a Canon T3i with real organic elements like mustard seeds and water. Compositing was entirely done in FCP7.
