The Giant Sea Bass (Stereolepis gigas) was hunted to near extinction off of the California coast in. Since their protection in 1982 they have slowly come back. During the summer months they congregate at Catalina Island. Over the years I have been watching them grow from big fish, to really big fish. These gentile giants just hang in the kelp, letting divers get up close to them. Seeing this, makes me equate hunting them, equal to hunting a dairy cow. Not real sporting.
