Grand Opening - Thursday November 7th 2013
We went announced, a day off sort of thing, a 5:30 morning twilight hours crash
a 3 men, one woman crew
And long the way we met another band like us 3 men & one woman
8 in total - it's my lucky number
Being I love and admire old school cinematographers Gregg Toland and the more recent Conrad L. Hall who both mention and are grateful for "happy accidents" that make magic in their films/scenes .I just happened to have one of my own.
I found a old prism based early 1900's Kodak thorium lens (slightly radioactive) medium format coverage.
I made a bellows mount using an EOS adapter and fine heavy black silk to marry the two and chicken wire.
Unfortunately for me on the way into the club on the plexiglass floor entrance I slipped the camera and lens went it two different directions.
My own fault, I walk around with my construction boots untied . . . accident self prone old me.
So I just did with what I had, those two, body and lens held together by my hands while shooting . . .
All editing was done in camera and intentional cut to strobes or color washes.
Only the available light of the club, nothing else.
No color correction or grading (so far I don't believe in it for me)
No filters, fillers, binders or any other special effects, just something (technique) my uncle Alex use to use that he showed me as a boy . . .
:-) dizzy yet?
