The mission of the Hyde Leadership Charter School, which opened its doors in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx, NY in 2006, is to develop the deeper character and unique potential of each student. Using the Hyde Process for family-based character education, the Hyde Leadership Charter School unites parents, teachers, and students to help each student achieve his or her best academically and in sports, the arts and community service. Through rigorous academics, character education and family renewal.
Chartered in January 2006 by the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), Hyde Leadership Charter School (Hyde-Bronx) is a college preparatory charter school that opened its first academic year in September 2006 with 193 kindergarten and sixth grade students in District 8, the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx and that currently serves 900 students in grades K-12
The Hyde-Bronx program is designed with the intention that all of its high school graduates will be accepted to 4-year colleges and be prepared for the intellectual and ethical challenges of college and life beyond. Hyde-Bronx is the fifth Hyde school, founded on Joseph Gauld’s premise that character development and active family involvement are essential components in teaching children to become responsible, ethical and successful human beings.
