Jacob Jonas is a Los Angeles based choreographer, photographer, and filmmaker. He was first introduced to the art of dance at the age of thirteen when he saw The Calypso Tumblers, a street-performing group on the Venice Beach boardwalk. Inspired, Jacob eventually joined the group and, within a year, was touring internationally to multiple busker festivals. Jacob then continued his training and decided to study other forms of dance – concert, commercial, and street – that led him to his true passion – choreography.
Jacob and his dance partner, Jill Wilson, received “Performing Artist of 2012” by RAW Artist and are featured artists for Jordan Matter’s “Dancer’s Among Us,” with whom they continue to collaborate. Jacob had a one-on-one creative mentorship with Donald Byrd and performed as a guest artist with Spectrum Dance Theatre. In 2013, Jacob was awarded 2nd runner up at the Capezio A.C.E. Awards.
Jacob launched Jacob Jonas The Company (JJTC), a project based creative company specializing in dance, production content, and arts education. JJTC just premiered its first production In a Room on Broad St. in Los Angeles at Highways Performance Space and New York City at the Ailey Citigroup theatre as was as was cited for it’s “raw emotion” by the New York Times.
Jacob is also producing a book on dance photography titled Your Shadow that features over 250 of the most influential dancers and choreographers around the world including Joe Tremaine, Ryan Heffington, Les 7 doigts de la main, Mia Michaels, Anita Mann, Derek Hough, Jaques Hiem, and more.
