Catherine A "Jazz Cat" Lee first began exploring poetry as a percussive voice with jazz musicians at a loft performance space she organized in Boston, MA in 1978. Among her successful performances were joint musical readings with her mentor, the late Ted Joans, in 1986-87. Trained in graphic design, and a former custom textbook project manager, Cat's print output is largely via personally creating altered artist chapbooks in signed, numbered, limited editions, now with multimedia insertions. She relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 2006 and began spending summers in Asheville, North Carolina in 2013. Since then, Cathy has read often at various poetry venues and performed at jam sessions and with fine musicians in both localities. Because working with carefully selected music amplifies her poetic content, Cathy now records poetry projects in collaboration with other creative souls and e-publishes videos here at VIMEO and audio at Soundcloud.
